Our
bells were installed with help of public donations last century.
Taylors
the bell-founders examining them recently described them as “a superb ring of
eight … certainly one of the very best amongst some really impressive rings,
not only in the Westcountry but throughout this country as a whole.”
Nicholson’s
commented,
“The
bells were made when Taylors were at the peak of their abilities and are widely
regarded as one of the finest rings of eight bells in the country. All are excellent castings and the bells were
fully harmonically tuned by their founder.
The bells remain in good tune and form an instrument of superb quality.”
The
bell frame now needs replacing at a cost of around £40,000.
It
will be declared unsafe in 12 months unless work is completed.
